Volkswagen Motorsport India shows off the Virtus GT Touring car.

Volkswagen Motorsport India has brought in a new racing car called the Virtus GT Touring. This time, it is not a used car. Based on Volkswagen’s C-segment sedan, which came out this year, it’s long, lower to the ground, and looks like it’s going full-tilt even when it’s not moving.

The racing division of the German automaker showed off the car today on its Instagram account with the message “Stay tuned” for more information, such as the suspension and engine specs.

From the pictures, it looks like the Virtus ITC race car is a huge step up from the Virtus GT Plus. It is painted Wild Cherry Red and has banners with the words Volkswagen Motorsport and GT on the back door, C-pillars, and trunk. The most important change is that the ride height has been lowered, and the car now has new alloy wheels and big tyres. When the car is turned on, the side-mounted exhaust pipes between both doors make a noise that gives you goosebumps.

Even though Volkswagen Motorsport India hasn’t shown pictures of the inside, we can see the roll cage and the all-black cabin. If VW race cars of the past are any indication, this one will be stripped down to the metal, with only the dashboard and clocks from the stock car left. As part of the race makeover, it should come with one racing bucket with a six-point harness for the driver.

The 1.5-liter TSI Evo inline-four turbocharged gasoline engine will power both the standard Virtus and the ITC. But the company that makes the car might tune up the engine to give it more power. At 5,000rpm, the 1.5-liter engine in the Virtus makes 148bhp and at 1,600rpm, it makes 250Nm. The standard Virtus has a dual-clutch transmission with seven speeds and paddle shifters.

The Virtus ITC will probably start racing soon. In fact, the MRF MMSC FMSCI India National Racing Championship 2022 is coming up soon, and we can expect Volkswagen Motorsport India to show off the car in the first race of the 2022 season.
