Is there a chance of a New Tata Nano EV?

This time around, Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Limited could bring back the Tata Nano as an entry-level EV. A Nano EV has been talked about for a while and seems to be getting a lot of attention on the internet.

Rumors also say that the Tata Nano’s X3 platform could be used to make an electric vehicle drivetrain. The monocoque chassis would also need to be updated to meet the most recent rules for crash safety and safety for people walking in the street. The suspension and tyres will also be changed to account for the battery pack’s extra weight. If the idea works out, Tata Motors could also ask the government of Tamil Nadu to buy Ford’s plant in Maraimalainagar.

When TOI asked for an official answer about the rumoured Nano EV, a Tata spokesperson reportedly said, “Tata Motors doesn’t comment on rumours and upcoming vehicles.”

There is already a Tata Nano EV!

The Nano EV is a unique custom project, but it does exist. Ratan Tata, an industrialist and philanthropist who has won the Padma Bhushan and Padma Vibhushan awards, was given a custom New Tata Nano EV by Electra EV. Tata was one of the early investors and founders of Electra EV. The custom Nano EV is based on a 72V EV architecture and has red interiors. Tata Nano EVs have also been used as conversion kit cars on the streets of Bengaluru and as taxis for the SainikPod Sit & Go, an all-electric transportation service.
